What Is Animal Reiki? How Healing Energy Supports Your Pet

Is your animal anxious? In pain? Struggling to adjust? Reiki offers a complementary way to support their healing and calm.

My introduction and journey with Reiki began with a desire to learn animal communication. Before communicating with animals, I needed to understand energy first. Reiki taught me about dropping control and surrendering to flow. You don’t control energy, you learn to work with it.

This subtle universal life energy flows through all beings. There are many things that can disrupt the flow: stress, illness and traumas to name a few. Reiki encourages deep relaxation and nervous system regulation supporting your own body’s natural ability to balance itself.

How a Session Works

When you reach out to book a Reiki session, here’s exactly what happens:

Step 1: You send photo + what you’re hoping for

Email me a clear picture of your animal and let me know what’s going on. Is your pet anxious? Recovering from surgery? Dealing with chronic pain? Struggling to adjust to a new home? No concern is too small or too big.

Step 2: I sit with your animal + offer energy

I find a quiet space, settle into a receptive state, and tune into your animal’s energy. I offer Reiki healing energy for them to receive as much as they’re open to. This usually takes 30-60 minutes depending on the depth of the session. Distance doesn’t matter-energy isn’t confined to physical presence. With a strong intention and grounded approach, I can connect with any being anywhere.

Step 3: I send you a summary

You receive an email with what came through during the session-what shifted, the signs I observed, and any insights about your animal’s state. Most animals show clear physical signs that they’re absorbing the energy and entering deep relaxation.

Step 4: You continue supporting their healing

Reiki works best as part of a whole-animal approach. You might continue with veterinary care, dietary support, or other complementary therapies. Most people notice behavioral shifts, increased calm, and a deeper sense of peace in their animal.

Common Benefits for Animals

Anxiety & Stress Relief: Helps calm rescues adjusting to new homes, animals with separation anxiety, or pets traumatized by past abuse or shelter environments.

Support for Illness or Recovery: Acts as a complementary therapy alongside veterinary care to aid recovery after surgery or illness by lowering stress levels.

Pain & Mobility Support: Often used for aging animals dealing with arthritis or chronic stiffness to promote muscular relaxation and comfort.

End-of-Life Transition: Provides deep comfort, calm, and pain relief for terminally ill pets, helping ease their final transition.

Signs an Animal Is Receiving Energy

During a session, animals typically show clear visual cues that they are absorbing energy and entering a deep state of relaxation:

  • Heavy yawning, licking, or lip-smacking
  • Deep sighing or softened eye gaze
  • Stretching out, rolling onto their side, or falling into sleep
  • Walking away when they feel they have received enough (a clear sign the session is complete)

Real Life Story

I’m going to talk about one of my own cats here. Her name is Serafina. Almost two years ago, she developed a violent, scary cough out of nowhere. Something was definitely wrong, and you couldn’t leave her alone in case an episode struck.

I’ve spent over $20k taking her to vets: x-rays, echocardiograms, prescriptions for inhalers and oral steroids. Steroids would work for a while, then the cough would return. The diagnosis remained unclear: possibly asthma, but nothing official.

We tried everything. We changed her diet to raw, changed her water, and her litter. We overhauled our home: air purifiers, hypoallergenic furnace filters, removed scented candles and household cleaners. We worked with holistic vets, had land clearings, consulted muscle testers. We went from western medicine to eastern practices.

The only thing that consistently stops a coughing episode is Reiki.

When I offer her Reiki energy, it’s almost immediate. She accepts it and the cough passes. I don’t even have to be physically present-I’ve offered her Reiki from multiple states away and it works the same way. Remote, in-person, it doesn’t matter. The energy reaches her and she calms.

That’s what I’ve learned: sometimes the deepest healing comes not from fixing the problem, but from supporting the nervous system to relax and regulate itself.

Important Note

Reiki is a complementary holistic practice and is never a substitute for direct veterinary diagnosis, medication, or medical procedures.
